The Best Italian Cities,
Towns and Places
Italian cities are surely children of that ancient, enduring and highly active urban history that perhaps the most characterizes Italy in the long pages of its illustrious past.
Italy, in fact, most probably possesses the highest number of historically important cities in the world, and the relevance of the profound traces that the highly developed civilization of these cities left for us to see are a testimony of the modernity that they demonstrated: it would not be an exaggeration to assert that our contemporary lifestyle is in its own turn the child of this great urban tradition.
More to this, italian towns and cities still show vividly today the signs of a past that we now only read on history books: no matter how small a place can be, in Italy you can easily discover, in your errands or stopping by after an unplanned deviation, towns that were once major centers in some powerful and influent potentate or civilization, or even locations where some noticeable historical happening took place.
All of this has something mythical in it and walking back, many a time not even aware of it, on the footsteps of our ancestors is an experience that connects us not only to our past, but with our being human over time as well: that we are part of a bigger whole and that there is a visible continuity with a world now gone, but not entirely forgotten.
In this section, I will give you my accounts from my discovery of these places in the hope not only that you might find something useful in it, but that you may feel the same way about your discoveries too!
Moreover, don't miss the info about what to do, see... and eat in these fantastic places.
