A road trip: here is something to do in Italy
Today’s photo for the on the road trip column was taken by Marianna D’Amico on the shores of Lake Garda. To be precise, we are in Riva del Garda in Trentino. For those looking for something to do in Italy this image can be an interesting source of inspiration.
Marianna takes us directly to the harbor by the lake. Here we find two medium-sized boats moored on the right. These are the ferries that connect the port of San Nicolò to the main towns of the lake. On the left another two small private boats are moored near the quay. The plants, now bare of leaves, decorate the scene. The mountains in the background surround the lake. The lights reflected on the water give the image a sort of magical atmosphere.
In short, Riva del Garda was founded in Roman times as an aggregate to the city of Brescia. At the fall of the empire it passed under the dominion of various peoples. These were:
Later it passed under the dominion of various principalities up to the dominion of the Prince Bishop of Trento. Following the fate of Trentino up to the definitive annexation to Italy in 1919.
How to reach it and what to see
The city is located on the northernmost tip of the lake. To the west is Mount Rocchetta, 1575 m high, while to the east lies Mount Baldo, 2218 m high. One of the interesting things you can visit along the road is the Inviolata church. If you are looking for something to do in Italy, my advice is to stop and visit the MAG section of Riva del Garda, or the Alto Garda museum. This is located inside the fortress that is situated in the city center. The cost of the entrance ticket to the exhibition is € 5.
Just think: you can reach Riva del Garda by car via the A22 Modena-Brennero taking the Rovereto exit. From here the destination is 17 km away. If you come from Brescia you can take the Gardesana state road. As far as the train is concerned, it is always possible to reach Rovereto, which is on the Brenner railway line. There are buses for Riva.
Instead, those arriving from Venice can get off at the stations of:
Regular buses to the city are available from here.
The nearest airport is Verona. From here it is possible to reach Riva del Garda by bus or taxi.
Where to stay
Here’s another thing: for the overnight stay I suggest booking a stay at the Grand Hotel Liberty. The cost of a double room is on average around € 100. Alternatively I recommend the b & b Villa Bellaria which is located on the lake shore. The price of the stay is usually € 75 per person.
As you saw from this photo taken in Riva del Garda there are many things to discover during the road trips. Here: if you were looking for something to do in Italy you absolutely shouldn’t miss this. Now what are you waiting for? You just have to get on the road!
